"Save Education in Gaza"
During the World Education Week and under the slogan "Save Education in Gaza," the Enlightenment Cultural Forum, in partnership with the Yafa Cultural Center and under the auspices of the Educational Coalition, organized a seminar on the concept of transformative learning and its role in advancing the educational process. Dr. Aliya Al-Asali, an associate professor in curriculum and teaching methods at An-Najah National University, presented that transformative learning is a complex process that requires individuals to engage in critical self-reflection. Educational transformation occurs when learners change their thinking styles and lives on two levels: the level of knowledge, beliefs, emotions, or values through which they interpret their experiences. An educational environment based on freedom, justice, equality, democracy, and social cooperation must be provided. Mr. Shaher Al-Badawi, the media coordinator at the Educational Coalition and Yafa Cultural Center, emphasized the deliberate educational destruction inflicted by the occupation on the Gaza Strip for over half a year: comprehensive destruction of schools and universities, in addition to depriving nearly 700,000 students from continuing their education due to the continuous aggression on the Gaza Strip since last October. Despite the extensive damage to the educational sector in Gaza, there are still many tents established afterward to educate and teach children in shelter centers. The meeting was chaired by the board member of the Enlightenment, Elham Sharaab.
