The Psychological and Legal Counseling Center for Women organizind a field visit for trainee journalists as part of the "Speak Up" media project, in collaboration with the Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate and Wattan TV.
The visit took place at the headquarters of the Journalists' Syndicate in Ramallah, where the delegation met with the Syndicate's President, Nasser Abu Bakr, and Vice President, Omar Nazzal. Both welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of the Syndicate's history, emphasizing its role as a comprehensive body representing all journalists. They highlighted the Syndicate's efforts in documenting violations against journalists by the Israeli occupation, including killings, arrests, and injuries. The Syndicate collaborates with the International Federation of Journalists, human rights organizations, and international lawyers to hold Israeli leaders accountable for their crimes against journalists. They also expressed pride in the Center's efforts in training and building a media cadre.
The delegation then visited the Wattan TV office, where they met Ahmad Melhem, Chairman of Wattan TV. Melhem introduced the trainees to the different departments within Wattan TV, explaining the importance of each department and the work mechanisms of media teams, both in the field and inside the studios. He provided a detailed explanation of how news is gathered, prepared, and broadcasted to the public, emphasizing the collaborative role of the teams in ensuring the delivery of accurate and reliable media content that meets the audience's needs. During the visit, the trainees had the opportunity to engage directly with experienced journalists and reporters, adding a valuable dimension to their learning experience.
Notably, the visit was accompanied by trainers Nasser Shtayyeh and journalist Walaa Fatair, who emphasized that providing such practical opportunities for trainees significantly contributes to building their skills, boosting their confidence in their professional journey, and offering valuable advice and guidance on how to handle the various challenges journalists may face in their daily work.
The administrative staff of the Women’s Support Center expressed that this visit is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the trainees' skills and provide them with field experience in journalism. The visit focused on introducing the trainees to the mechanisms of journalistic work in real-world settings and how to address the challenges journalists might encounter in the field. It also included practical training on how to obtain information from direct sources, a critical skill that every field journalist must master.
